Johanesburg Area

June 5th 2015
Arrived in Johannesburg from London in the morning and went birding with Selwyn from Rockjumper in the afternoon.

Sunrock Hotel - Close to the airport.  Spent two nights here.  Comfortable

Sunrock Hotel Gardens - Feeders did attract many birds.

Laughing Doves at the Sunrock Hotel

Red-headed Finches - Plenty of these at the Sunrock Hotel but a near endemic and not seen elsewhere on our trip.

Red-headed Finches

Fiscal Flycatcher - Also in the Sunrock gardens.  This regional endemic was seen on several days during the trip.

Grey-headed Gulls- This breeding colony was close to the airport.

African Darters

Brown Snake Eagle - There were several sightings during the trip.

Spotted Thick-knee - Only seen on this day, although common enough in open fields as it began to get dark (while we were searching for Grass Owls!).
